An excellent Springbock painting 👍Christopher👍, but does 'Pronking' not mean jumping high in the air ? Just wondering ! 🙂

Christopher Reid replied:

Thank you Hartmut :) Jumping high is definitely a part of pronking. In mating season springbok pronking includes something unique. They have a flap on their backs that opens up to expose bright white fur. This is the part of pronking I wanted to highlight in the painting. :)

I took a reference photo from the car with my cell phone. I cropped in on the springbok to give him prominence. I chose a photo with him looking away. I didn't want this to be the typical trophy pose and I liked the way the light was falling across him. He wasn't pronking when I drove by, so I did research on springbok anatomy and altered him so he was pronking.
